NIISQ dietitian questions
What is NIISQ?
The National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland provides lifetime treatment, care and support for people who sustain eligible serious personal injuries in motor vehicle accidents in Queensland. Participants have a support plan managed by the National Injury Insurance Agency Queensland (NIIAQ).
Can I use my NIISQ funding to see a dietitian?
Yes. Ask your NIISQ support planner to add dietitian services to your treatment, care and support plan. We work directly with your planner on appointments and billing.
What nutrition issues are common after a serious injury?
Difficulty swallowing, changes in appetite, unintentional weight loss, increased energy needs during recovery, tube feeding, bowel health changes after spinal cord injury and pressure injury risk. A dietitian helps manage all of these.
Do you have experience with enteral nutrition and tube feeding?
Yes. Our team has extensive experience in enteral nutrition and is one of few community dietetics practices in South East Queensland offering blenderised tube feed support, in addition to standard formula feeding.
Do you provide home visits for NIISQ participants?
Yes, across Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and surrounding areas. You can also see us in clinic at Logan, Ipswich or Redlands, or by telehealth video call.
How do you work with my rehabilitation team?
We write to your care team after every appointment, including your GP, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, physiotherapist and NIISQ support planner, with clinical reports so everyone is working toward the same goals.
What is the difference between NIISQ and NDIS?
NIISQ covers serious personal injuries from motor vehicle accidents in Queensland. NDIS covers permanent and significant disability from any cause, and some people move from NIISQ to NDIS over time. The funding processes differ, but our nutrition support is tailored to you either way.
What areas do you cover for NIISQ home visits?
Logan City, Ipswich, Redlands and surrounding suburbs in South East Queensland, with telehealth for participants outside that area. Contact us to check your location.
