Private health insurance questions

Can I claim a dietitian through my private health insurance?

Yes. Most policies with extras or ancillary cover include dietitian consultations. We accept over 30 health funds through Tyro Healthpoint and process your claim on the spot. Check your policy or call us and we can help you find out what is covered.

Which private health funds do you accept?

We accept AAMI, ACA Health, ahm, Apia, Astute Simplicity Health, Australian Seniors, Bupa, CBHS Corporate, CBHS Health, Defence Health, Doctors’ Health Fund, Emergency Services Health, Frank Health Insurance, GMBHA, IMAN, ING Health Insurance, Medibank, Mildura Health Fund, nib, Nurses and Midwives Health, Priceline Health Insurance, Police Health, Qantas Insurance, Real Insurance, St.LukesHealth, Suncorp, Teachers Health Fund, Teachers Union Health, Territory Health Fund, Uni Health Insurance, Union Health, and Westfund.

Do I need a referral to claim a dietitian through my health fund?

No. You can book directly at any time. A referral is only needed if you want Medicare rebates through a chronic disease management plan, which is a separate pathway.

How does on-the-spot claiming work?

We process your claim electronically through Tyro Healthpoint at your appointment. Your fund pays its portion directly and you pay the remaining gap. No paperwork, no receipts to submit.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

It depends on your fund and level of cover. We provide a quote before your appointment. Most funds rebate between $30 and $60 per consultation for dietitian services, but this varies by fund and policy.

Can I claim telehealth appointments through my health fund?

Yes. Telehealth, clinic and home visit consultations are claimable through most funds. Telehealth is available anywhere in Australia, and clinic appointments and home visits across Logan, Ipswich and Redlands.

Can I use both my private health insurance and Medicare for the same appointment?

No, but you can choose which pathway works better for you. With a chronic condition and a GP referral, Medicare may give a higher rebate. Without a referral, your extras cover is the simplest option. We can help you work out which is best.

What areas do you cover for private health fund appointments?

Clinic appointments and home visits across Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and surrounding areas, and telehealth Australia-wide.
