Private dietitian questions

Do I need a referral to see a private dietitian?

No. You can book directly at any time. If you do have a GP referral under a chronic disease management plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates that reduce your out-of-pocket cost.

How much does a private dietitian consultation cost?

Standard initial consultations (45 minutes) are $145 with Shayan Khademi or Georgia Bates, and $165 with Andrew Thompson at our Ipswich clinic ($145 with Andrew elsewhere). Review appointments (30 minutes) are $95 with Shayan or Georgia and $105 with Andrew at Ipswich ($95 elsewhere). Complex initial consultations (60 minutes) are $190, with review appointments (45 minutes) at $145.

Do you accept private health insurance?

Yes. We accept all major private health funds including Bupa, Medibank, nib, ahm, CBHS, Defence Health and 25+ others. Claim through your extras or ancillary cover with the receipt we provide.

What is the difference between standard and complex consultations?

Standard consultations suit straightforward concerns like general healthy eating, weight management or single-condition support. Complex consultations suit conditions needing more clinical depth, such as IBS and FODMAP, multiple chronic conditions, enteral nutrition or detailed clinical assessments. We will help you choose during the discovery call.

Why would I need a complex consultation?

With 60 minutes for your initial and 45 for reviews, there is time to properly understand your situation if you have multiple conditions, complex medications or need detailed clinical work, and to keep your GP and care team in the loop. Many people start with complex and move to standard as things settle.

Can you help with IBS and the low FODMAP diet?

Yes. Andrew holds Monash University Low FODMAP Diet accreditation, the gold standard for IBS dietary management. We guide you through the elimination, challenge and reintroduction phases with structured, evidence-based support.

What is GLP-1 medication nutrition support?

GLP-1 medications affect appetite and food intake. We help you maintain muscle mass, meet protein needs, manage appetite changes, prevent nutrient deficiencies and build sustainable eating habits.

Do you provide home visits for private patients?

Yes, across Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and surrounding areas. A travel cost may apply, or you can see us in clinic at no travel cost. Telehealth by video call is available anywhere in Australia.

Can I see you for general nutrition advice, not just medical conditions?

Yes. You do not need a diagnosed condition to see a dietitian. Many private clients want support with everyday eating, energy levels or building healthier habits.
