Paediatric Dietitian | Logan Clinic & Telehealth Australia-wide

Worried about your child’s eating, growth or mealtimes?

Meet Georgia Bates, our paediatric Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), who provides neuro-affirming, strength-based and family-centred care for babies, children and teenagers. Georgia supports families with fussy eating, ARFID, autism and ADHD-related feeding differences, growth and nutritional concerns (including nutrient deficiencies), food allergies and introducing solids.

  • Individualised, practical and flexible support that considers your child’s unique needs, strengths and preferences, while fitting into your family’s everyday life.
  • Neuro-affirming, strength-based and pressure-free care that respects your child’s autonomy, promotes positive relationships with food and prioritises emotional safety over food rules, dieting or mealtime battles.
  • Collaborative, holistic care that works alongside your child’s GP, paediatrician, allergist, behaviour support practitioner, speech pathologist, occupational therapist and daycare or school educators to provide consistent, coordinated support.
  • Flexible funding options, including Medicare rebates (with additional rebates potentially available for eligible children with autism or disability), self-managed and plan-managed NDIS funding, and private health insurance.
  • Parent and caregiver-focused initial appointments: your child does not need to attend the first session. This allows us to explore your concerns, your child’s needs and feeding history, and your family’s goals in a relaxed, pressure-free environment.

About Georgia

Georgia Bates, Accredited Practising Dietitian, paediatrics and eating disorders at Thompson Community Dietitians

Georgia Bates is an Accredited Practising Dietitian whose clinical work centres on paediatric nutrition, including ARFID, feeding difficulties and growth concerns, neurodivergent-affirming nutrition care, and eating disorders.

Her approach is compassionate, evidence-based, trauma-informed, size-inclusive, neuro-affirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming; she keeps your child, your family and your goals at the centre of care.

Using a Responsive Feeding Therapy approach, Georgia prioritises each child’s individual needs, autonomy and relationship with food. Rather than focusing on getting children to eat specific foods or amounts, she helps families create calm, safe and pressure-free mealtimes, where children can build confidence, feel comfortable around food and gradually develop curiosity to explore new foods.

Georgia works collaboratively with you and your child’s support team, which may include your GP, paediatrician, allergist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, school or childcare.

Before you book

Do I need a referral to see Georgia?
No. You can book privately without one. For Medicare rebates, your GP can set up a chronic condition management plan (up to 5 allied health sessions a year). If your child has autism or another eligible condition, their paediatrician, psychiatrist or GP can include a dietitian in a Medicare treatment plan instead. We can help you work out which one fits and what to ask for.
What happens at the first appointment?
The first appointment focuses on parents and carers, so your child doesn’t need to come. It gives you time to talk through your concerns, your child’s needs and feeding history, and your family’s goals, in a relaxed, pressure-free setting. Georgia will ask about what and how your child eats, their growth, routines and sensory needs, and what you’ve already tried. If you have growth records, your child’s health record book, letters or test results, bring them with you.
Will you make my child eat foods they don’t like?
No. Pressure usually makes selective eating harder, so Georgia works at your child’s pace. Support starts with the foods your child already accepts and builds from there in small, low-pressure steps, with ideas you can use at home.
My child is above a healthy weight. Will you put them on a diet?
No. Georgia doesn’t put children on diets or focus on the scales. She works with the whole family on regular meals and snacks, foods everyone enjoys, activity and sleep, and a relaxed relationship with food, and she looks at growth over time alongside your GP or paediatrician.
Can you help with food allergies?
Yes, alongside your child’s GP, paediatrician or allergist. Georgia helps you keep meals varied and nutritious around your child’s allergies, working within their medical plan. She can also help when you’re introducing common allergy foods to your baby, in line with Australian infant feeding guidelines.
Does Medicare cover dietitian visits for autistic children?
Yes. Since July 2025, dietitians can provide Medicare-rebated sessions under the items for autism, intellectual disability, global developmental delay and other eligible disabilities, for people under 25. Your child needs a treatment plan and referral from their paediatrician, psychiatrist or GP, depending on the diagnosis. The rebate is $89.50 per session. The 20 lifetime treatment sessions are shared across all allied health, so it’s worth planning how to use them.
How much does it cost?
Private fees: $190 for the first appointment (60 minutes) and $145 for reviews (45 minutes, or up to 60 minutes for ARFID and eating disorders).

Medicare GP plan: $63.40 rebate per session for up to 5 allied health sessions a year, so your out-of-pocket is $126.60 for the first appointment and $81.60 for a review.
Medicare autism and disability items: $89.50 rebate per session with a treatment plan.
NDIS: First appointments are 90 minutes, billed to your plan at NDIS rates (self-managed or plan-managed).
Private health: Claim via Tyro on the spot, you pay only the gap.
ADF families: The ADF Family Health Program includes dietitians, with $800 a financial year for each registered dependant.

If cost is a barrier, please tell us on the call. We’d rather talk it through than have you not reach out.
Does telehealth work for children?
Often, yes. Video suits parent-led sessions, and seeing your kitchen and mealtimes at home can be really useful. Some children do better in person, so the Logan clinic is available too. If growth is a concern, Georgia may ask for recent measurements from your GP or child health nurse.
